After the first Super Bowl in 1967, it became very important to Americans. This football game originated from the National Football League to determine the best team for that year. They pull their teams from two different conferences, the American Football Conference and the National Football Conference. Each conference consists of 16 teams from the North, South, East and West areas of the United States. These teams then play others from their division. After an entire season of football games, the best team from the AFC, and the best team from the NFC challenge each other to be the Super Bowl Champs. Not everyone’s team goes to the Super Bowl, but this is a very much watched social event. Some people love to watch the new commercials that come out each year, while others are just excited to see the fabulous half time show with a wide variety of celebrities. Whatever your reason, food is consumed very liberally. Maybe you like the Super Bowl game food! Of course there always the couch coaches, who always know what the team should do at any point of the game. Rules do not always make a fair game; however, one team will win and one team will not.
Today is the Big Game and that has my attention. Of course, my desire is for one team to win over the other, but it really doesn’t matter. The outcome will still be the same, one will win and one will lose.
It’s like the “game of life”. We are all players, but many do not know it. They don’t know the sport they are playing, their position, their coach, and they haven’t been practicing. They just are fumbling around like a spectator, when they are actually supposed to be in the game.
After Jesus’ resurrection, the Apostles made a dramatic change and moved from the sidelines into the game. It finally all made sense to them. They then knew the game they were playing, who their coach was, and the stakes of losing. They put on the jersey, suited up, practiced, listened to the coach, and played hard as if their life depended on winning.
Do you know that you are in the game? Do you know what team you are on? Do others around you know what team you are on?
Anyone who isn’t with me opposes me, and anyone who isn’t working with me is actually working against me. Matthew 12:30 NLT
Jesus said you are either with me or against me. So you are either on Jesus’ team, or you are on Satan’s team. Not being on Jesus’ team, means that you default to Satan’s.
Do your children know that you are on Jesus’ team? Do they see you “practicing”, by praying and reading His word, the Bible? Do they see you making “plays” daily for Him; like financially supporting His ministry, helping others in need, and volunteering your time to serve? If they don’t see you actively playing on Jesus’ team and enjoying it, they will not want to also be on His team.
So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless. James 2:17 NLT
So if you weren’t already, come join the Jesus team, and then let everyone around you know which team you are on.
